Patio Music by Andy Leggett [Sep. 5th, 2006|12:59 am]
Once Upon a Time, We Faded Blue
(It's been awhile since I've been on here--mainly because this place seems dead--but here's what I've been working on lately:

This poem started as a haiku, morphed into a pantoum, and switched between that and free-form--this is the latest, and I hope *fingers-crossed*, final version...Here it is:)

Patio Music

We sit out on the balcony, you and I,

Eating ravioli that glistens in the moonlight,

Slipping over each other like fish caugh tin a net,

And rubbing starchy scales in the muted glow

Falling from the patio doors,

And smile at each other across the table,

The light of the fireflies hovering above our heads

Reflected in the darkness of our eyes,

And remember how we used to dance

Beneatha a different set of lights:

Slow steps echoing on a concrete dancefloor,

And moths flapping against the streetlamp that illuminated us

As we pressed against each other,

Listening to the rhythmic music of our heartbeats.
